Mew
A request from Mike Larsson for a cat comic. Yes it’s like every other cat comic I’ve done. She likes to eat what can I say?
I usually sketch out a little thumbnail of what I’m going to do. Sometimes as large as 8 1/2″ x 11″. They’re pretty rough. I just want a little idea of where things go and what’s going to be said. Generally what I layout is exactly what I draw. I may change the dialog, but it’s pretty close most of the time.

Being that this is something I may want to publish in a comick book in the future, I pencilled it on one of my comic boards. They run 11″ x17″ with a 10″ x 15″ drawing area. I do my best to redraw the thumbnail bigger. The loose sketches are really good for unconventional faces and poses. I have kind of given up drawing like a normal person at this point so I do have good idea of what look I’m going for.

And then I trace. Here’s the finished comick. Click to embiggen.

Every time I get from my chair to get a drink or go to the bathroom or whatever, this little gremlin yells at me.
So I’ve been sketching out ideas for things directly into the computer with my tablet, so I don’t have a bunch of scraps of paper and things all over the place. This was an idea for a little comic strip with our cat Mew, but I like the faces on her too damn much so it’s probably just going to stay as this sketch for now.
Mew’s been in several comic strips check ‘em out:
Also: I haven’t mentioned it as of yet, but I’m on the Twitters so look me up:

Also: an animated version which is kinda lame:
